Privacy Policy
In short
Plot Companion has no server of its own and no user account. Everything you create in the app (titles, position, dossiers, fact checks, conversations, settings) lives only on your device. We collect no usage data, run no analytics and show no ads.
Controller
Ulrich Diedrichsen (moinsen), developer@moinsen.dev. Send privacy requests to this address.
Data on the device
The app keeps in its own database: your library (titles and position), loaded film and series data, generated dossiers and fact checks, your conversations with the companion and the settings (provider, model, language). Your API key is stored in the device keychain (iOS Keychain). Deleting the app deletes this data. Single titles are removed in the library with a swipe.
TMDB (The Movie Database)
For search, episodes, cast and images the app queries the TMDB API (TMDB, 2345 Yale St, Santa Monica, CA, USA). Transmitted are your search terms and the ids of the titles you open, together with your IP address and the app language. TMDB privacy policy: https://www.themoviedb.org/privacy-policy. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Wikidata and Wikipedia
For source material, setting and period the app queries Wikidata and Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation, San Francisco, USA). Transmitted are the id of the work and your IP address.
AI provider of your choice (BYOK)
Dossiers, fact checks and answers are written by a language model. You choose the provider in the settings with your own key (for example DeepSeek, Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter or an Ollama on your own machine). That provider receives the title, the characters and episode summaries up to your position, your questions and the output language. Nothing about you is sent: no name, no address, no device identifier. The provider’s terms and privacy policy apply to that processing; the contract is between you and the provider.
On-device model
If you choose “On this device”, the Apple Intelligence language model runs locally on your iPhone. Titles, characters and questions then never leave the device.
Watch history import
If you import a Netflix viewing history (CSV), the file is read on the device only. To match titles, the series and film names in it are sent to TMDB as search terms, nothing else.
Sharing
When you share a dossier as text you decide where it goes. The app sends nothing to us.
Your rights
Since we process no data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose or delete; your data lives on your device and with the providers you chose. Towards those providers you have the rights under Art. 15 to 21 GDPR. Complaints go to the supervisory authority responsible for you.
Changes
When the app changes, this policy changes. The date above states the version.
